As we celebrate the Chinese New Year in Hong Kong, I’m looking forward to the many ABRSM events being planned for the spring period.
A highlight will be our annual High Achievers’ Concert on 9 April, featuring the ABRSM Celebration Symphony Orchestra. This is an ensemble of 100 members including some tremendously gifted and talented players from primary school age upwards. Playing alongside these young musicians will be ABRSM scholars from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, teachers, examiners and members of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Sinfonietta.
We had our first rehearsal on Sunday 22 January where we made a start on The Force of Destiny Overture by Verdi and Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. As we continue to prepare for the event, I’ll be asking some of our young performers to contribute to this blog so that they can share their experiences of playing together and what the whole process feels like for them. So look out for further posts from Hong Kong!
We’ve already started to sell tickets for the concert which takes place at the Diocesan Boys’ School in Mongkok. You can find out more below.
