Applying to work for us

When we have a vacancy, we will ask you to tell us about yourself through an application on our online portal. We want to hear about your skills and experience, what would make you the best candidate, and why you want to join us.

One of the key elements we prioritise in your application is your personal statement. This is your opportunity to demonstrate how you meet our requirements, through a clear and succinct submission.

We set a closing date for all our vacancies, after which all applications will be assessed against the job description and person specification for the role, to determine who most closely matches the requirements. Once the shortlist has been finalised, we will let you know as soon as possible what the outcome of your application is, whether you have been successful or not.

If you are shortlisted, we will ask you to come and meet with us for an interview. This often includes a test element, and we will supply full details ahead of your appointment. Sometimes we call candidates back for second interviews, and we will inform you as early as possible if this is likely to be the case.

How we assess at interview

When you visit us for an interview you will meet with a panel of colleagues, who will take you through a series of questions to find out about your suitability for the role. We will ask for examples from your experience and skills that demonstrate how you meet the criteria and show your passion for our business. We will give you an opportunity to ask us any questions you might have about the role or our organisation. Whether you are successful or not, we will be in touch as soon as possible to let you know the outcome.

If you are offered a role with us

If we offer you a role at ABRSM, we will undertake a series of pre-employment checks. This will include references from your former employers and/ or academic institutions, proof of your eligibility to work in the UK, evidence of your qualifications, and sometimes anti-fraud or DBS checks.
