Piano Mix and Joining the Dots Singing released

We are pleased to announce the launch today of two exciting new sets of ABRSM books – Piano Mix, three new volumes of easy arrangements for piano students, and Joining the Dots Singing, the latest addition to our award-winning series that helps develop sight-reading and sight-singing skills.

Piano Mix

Piano students can now explore a world of amazing music with our new books of easy arrangements. The three Piano Mix books are packed with brilliant pieces, ranging from orchestral and operatic works to folk and jazz tunes, all carefully arranged and graded for the developing pianist. Turn the pages and you’ll find music by Handel, Bizet, Verdi and Saint-Saëns alongside a traditional Swiss melody, music by John Dowland and a ragtime classic, to name just a few.

This new series, which has been compiled and edited by David Blackwell, features:

  • Three books to support progression from Grades 1 to 4
  • A fantastic mix of well-known music and new tunes to discover
  • Arrangements by Alan Bullard, Nikki Iles, Christopher Norton, Tim Richards and many more!

Piano Mix is a great source of inspiring repertoire to support learning, progression and musical discovery.

Anthony Williams"A word of warning – dip into these arrangements with plenty of time to spare as you will be hooked; the next hour or two will instantly disappear in a magical world of folk song, orchestral works, jazz standards and popular culture. These pieces are sensitively crafted for young pianists and are caringly arranged, always imaginative and often delightfully surprising. From the beautiful Mendelssohn Nocturne (Midsummer Night's Dream), a delightful Catalan folk song and a cheeky William Walton Polka, to the terrific, fun-loving 'Jive Hoot' arranged by the fabulous Nikki Isles, there is something for every student and musical taste. My personal favourites though? The Muppet Show Theme and Match of the Day."

Alan Bullard’s award-winning Joining the Dots series now includes five books that develop sight-singing skills. Students can use the books to help them prepare for ABRSM Singing exams by working through creative exercises and pieces. The books can also be used to build confidence in musicianship classes, as a resource for choirs or audition preparation.

Joining the Dots Singing covers the requirements for ABRSM’s sight-singing tests at Grades 1 to 5, and includes:

  • workouts and simple songs to build the rhythm and pitch skills required for the grade
  • simple improvisation exercises to explore ideas and develop a sense of rhythm and key
  • characterful pieces in a range of musical styles
  • songs and rounds to sing with others, for additional practice or to sing for fun.

Heidi Pegler"This is a fantastic series of books which gives a step by step approach allowing the student to learn the tools necessary to sight-sing with confidence. It will not only be invaluable to all singing students learning to sight-sing but will be a useful tool for instrumentalists who are preparing for the ABRSM aural tests. The elements of sight-singing are broken down into manageable segments ensuring that the student learns methodically. There are plenty of exercises allowing the student to practise these skills. This will become an essential book for all singing students to use. I can't wait to use them!
