ABRSM brings more sunshine to city workers

On Make Music Day, 21 June, ABRSM joined forces with Music in Offices (MIO), a leading workplace musical services provider, to create a lunchtime surprise musical performance in Paternoster Square near St Paul’s in London to celebrate the impact music has on our everyday lives.

Unsuspecting office workers were serenaded during their lunch break in the sunshine by ABRSM singers and MIO choir members from firms across the City, singing the Make Music Day national campaign song, ‘Bring me Sunshine’. Watch the performance video to see their reactions!

Speaking about the event Tessa Marchington, MIO’s Managing Director said:

‘We work with some of the UK’s leading businesses to use music as a means of developing and engaging their people. We see everyday from our clients the benefits music brings to the workplace through increased confidence, more inclusive behaviour and more engaged and motivated people. Today is about celebrating the importance music has on our lives and highlighting the power it can have in bringing people together. We hope the performance brings some sunshine to everyone in Paternoster Square today.’

ABRSM’s Chief Executive, Michael Elliott said:

‘We’re delighted to work with Music in Offices on this event in the City of London’s cultural hub! It’s now easier than ever to keep singing either as part of a choir in the workplace or in your local community. At ABRSM, we’re seeing more adult candidates taking graded music exams each year. Some people find exams useful to provide focus to learning as it gives them something to aim for, others really enjoy expanding their repertoire and learning songs across a number of styles and genres. From September we’re launching a new singing syllabus with a broader range of musical theatre songs and more choice of repertoire suitable for all tastes!’
