Free Music Theory resources now available

Earlier this year we announced some small changes to our Music Theory exams at Grades 1 to 5, with revised papers being used from January 2018 onwards. We’ve now created a range of online resources to support teachers and candidates as they prepare for exams at these grades in 2018 and beyond. The following free practice materials are available on our website:

Other resources

New printed Practice Papers and Model Answers, reflecting the revised questions, will be available to buy in January 2018. In the meantime, our existing Past Papers and books on Music Theory continue to provide excellent resources for teachers and candidates preparing for exams. Books include Music Theory in Practice, Theory Workbooks, First Steps in Music Theory and the AB Guide to Music Theory. Find out more on our webshop.

Why are we making these changes?

Our aim with these small changes is to create a better exam experience for candidates with a clearer focus on the essential knowledge and understanding needed at this level. The revised exam papers are based on our existing Music Theory syllabus and will continue to assess the same broad areas of knowledge to the same standards.

Updated Music Theory exam papers for Grades 1 to 5 will be used in all countries from 1 January 2018, with no overlap period. There are no changes to exam papers at Grades 6 to 8.
